This report provides a literature review conducted on behalf of Ofcom on personal data and privacy. The study sought to understand (1) the role of informed consent in privacy law , (2) th e role of informed consent in practice and (3) potential ways to improve informed consent in practice. Furthermore, the study investigated the impact of the Internet of Things on the three major issues. The executive summary is also structured around these three major issues.
